Fire Chief Ken Cavanaugh died of a heart attack that he sustained on the morning of October 18th after responding to a fire call with the Woodward Fire Department. Chief Cavanaugh had served with the Woodward Fire Department for 46 years. He is survived by his wife, three children, multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother, and sister.

Deputy Sheriff Stephanie Schreurs succumbed to injuries sustained four days earlier in a single-vehicle crash on K-52, near Rock Rapids, Iowa. Deputy Schreurs had served with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office for 24 years. She is survived by her four children.
