Sergeant James Smith, was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a barricaded subject in Grundy Center. Sergeant Smith had served with the Iowa State Patrol for 27 years. He leaves behind his wife of 30 years and two children.

Ted Benda

Trooper | Iowa State Patrol

EOW: 10/20/2021

Trooper Ted Benda succumbed to his injuries at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI, from an automobile accident while on duty with the Iowa State Patrol. Ted is survived by his wife and four daughters.

Sergeant John Williams passed away after suffering a medical emergency following his response to a shooting call. Sergeant Williams served in many roles at the Coralville Police Department for the last 28 years. He leaves behind a wife and four children.
