What do we do after the honoring ceremony and comedian on Friday night?
This year we have reserved seating and gaming areas at Smash Park in West Des Moines, 6625 Coachlight Dr. Our hope is that couples will go to Smash Park, or their hotels to connect and develop community with other Iowa Hero couples.
What do I do for breakfast on Saturday morning?
You can eat at your hotel (if they offer it), go to a local restaurant, or skip breakfast and wait for lunch.
When should I register for the Marriage Getaway event?
Right now! The earlier you sign up, the better grasp the Impact Iowa’s Heroes team has on how much food to order, how many t-shirts to order, etc. Plus, our hotel rooms are only blocked off until 30 days before the event (10/13/23).
I see this event is at Valley Church, is this a religious event?
No. Impact Iowa’s Heroes is a 501c3, educational non-profit organization. We are fortunate that Valley Church has opened its doors to allow us to use their facility at no cost. This cost savings allows Impact Iowa’s Heroes to provide more opportunities to serve you throughout the year.
The founders of Impact Iowa’s Heroes, Dr. Gary and Barb Rosberg, have provided space and opportunity to learn about things like faith and prayer in marriage in the past. It is their heart to continue to provide these opportunities, while considering your thoughts and beliefs, as well as, respecting the rules and regulations of the entities in which you serve. This year, as in the past years, there will be a brief optional gathering to learn more about how to grow in your marriage spiritually, again, this is completely optional for you to attend!
I see there is an honoring ceremony, who are we honoring?
Impact Iowa’s Heroes has reached out to numerous agencies and families this year in order to honor multiple heroes at our Marriage Getaway event. On Friday night, it is our mission to honor those that have given their life while serving as an Iowa Hero. We remember them and we honor them.
NOT SO SERIOUS FAQS
What should I bring to the event?
Your spouse, maybe another Iowa Hero couple, a coachable attitude, and a willingness to grow in your marriage.
What if my spouse doesn’t want to come?
Make them. Peer pressure from their co-workers always works well.
What should I wear?
Clothes. We hope this event provides a relaxed atmosphere for you to let down your walls, enjoy one another, and gives you space to build connection with your spouse. Whatever clothing works best for you to make this happen, wear it. But again, wear something.
I’m a firefighter, will I have to sit next to a police officer?
Not if you get there early and invite all of your firefighter friends to sit next to you.
I’m a police officer, will I have to sit next to a firefighter?
Possibly, but just remember they secretly want you there to keep them safe.
